"A Single Man"

I saw “A Single Man” with my friend David. The film is beautiful and the cinematography is exquisite. Before the movie, we went to Ippudo for dinner. Overall, it was a great night!

update (3/2): I bought the soundtrack for "A Single Man" last night and I've been listening to it ever since! The score (which I'm a bit saddened wasn't nominated for an Oscar) is mostly classical music with a few jazz songs thrown in. The violin solos are eerily haunting, yet so heartbreakingly beautiful. I would highly recommend the soundtrack!

Barney's Warehouse Sale.

Today, I ventured to the [in]famous Barney's Warehouse Sale, which only occurs twice a year. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, because I find that when you are looking for a certain item, you can never find it. At first, I was rather overwhelmed–there were clothes and shoes flying everywhere! However, once I started looking I found some great items, most of which I couldn't afford. I did however, find a great cocktail lbd (little black dress) from Behnaz Sarafpour and a fun magenta blouse from Marc Jacobs with an ikat print. I don't have an occasion to wear the lbd, but I'll find one! It's not completely clear in the pic (taken from my phone, hence the poor quality), but there's this great beading detail at the hem. Can't wait to wear both items!

slush.

It was literally slushing in NYC today. It was not raining. It was not snowing. It was not hailing. It was slushing. However, I chose to wore my Thakoon skirt today, which made me happy. Therefore, the weather did not bring me down today!

Anyway, busy weekend ahead of me. Time for bed.

Winter blues.

I haven't been feeling well the past week or so, but it's nothing major, just a touch of congestion, no sore throat or cough (thankfully!). Today, however, I woke up completely congested and feeling the worst I've felt all week. As most people do, I HATE being sick, especially now that I don't live at home—who's going to take care of me?!

Today was unseasonably warm—I loved it! But, according to weather.com and my daddy, there's supposed to be another winter storm or the like this week.

Finally, this morning, when I was in the bathroom putting my contacts in I noticed a growth of sorts on the bathroom wall. It was rather frightening, actually. It appeared as though there was a water bubble behind the paint, I even poked it and everything. disturbing. Anyway, the water pocket has dried up now, which is good, but the paint is peeling like craZy! Maintenance said they would repaint those areas. eventually. oh well.

Last note: my mother commented about this picture of me and my friend/neighbor Johnny.
She said that my hair looks nice pulled back. I'm always hesitant to pull my hair back when it's short just because it's short and is constantly falling out, so it was nice to hear a positive reaction! She also said I look older, and I think I look very young, so that's good to hear as well!

NYFW vol 2.

This past week, I've been obsessively checking style.com, nymag.com, etc. for the coverage of New York Fashion Week. Here are my favorite looks (in addition to the entire Elie Saab Couture Spring 2010 show, definitely check it out!):

Also, this morning my friend Charlie and I went to a lecture by Amy Astley, the editor in chief of Teen Vogue! She was so, so, so nice and completely inspiring. And, she's from Michigan!! Amy had so much to say about the fashion industry, publications, school—everything. I could really tell that fashion is something Amy is really, quite passionate about, and I hope that one day I can express myself as eloquently as she did today! Thanks for a great day Amy, and I hope to see you in the Teen Vogue offices in the next few years!

Goals for 2/15-2/20

Due to Presidents' Day, I only have three days of classes this week. However, that doesn't mean I have less work! Oodles of reading AND writing due in the next week.

This week's goals:
1. Get a good night's rest every night. aka, in bed by 12 (at the latest) so I can wake up for my 8am!
2. Try not to fall asleep in anime.
3. Do ALL readings for ALL classes. No skimming allowed.
4. Try to actively participate in both anime and history of comm recitations.
5. Continue fisheye experimentation!

NYFW

This fashion week marks the last time designers will be showing in the Bryant Park tents, which is quite saddening. Last night I get a call from my friend, Kenny, inviting me to the Custo Barcelona show. I accept his invitation without the slightest hesitation and then proceed to freak out, as usual, because I had nothing to wear! Luckily, my friends/stylists Stephen and Weiyi were quick to help and I was on my way to the tents! All I can say is that the entire night was so surreal. As you can guess, it was my first show and I loved every single moment of it! Think an over the top Matthew Williamson, and you have Custo Barcelona. There was some double seating drama, but I was eventually seated in the second row! And, I was informed that I'd also be on a new Oxygen reality show, because the women sitting directly behind me were the stars! What an eventful night! Here's my favorite look from the show:

Snow day fun!

Valentine’s assembly line, featuring Lena, Linley and Eric Ding.
At precisely 12:17pm, New York University declared today a SNOW DAY. Therefore, Lena and my natural instinct was to spend the afternoon (4 hours) making VALENTINE'S.

Chanel Jade. ish.

I fell in love with the highly coveted Chanel Jade and Jade Rose when I first saw pictures of them back in September. Of course, so did every other Chanel lover and/or nail polish fanatic, and they sold out before I could even think about seeing them in person.

So, over winter break while I'm at home I decide to stock up on nail polish! I'm with my sister (HI Laine!) I'm browsing the opi section, I see a few that I'm considering, and then I see this pale lime green, with a hint of mintyness (if that makes any sense). I ask Laine what she thinks of the color (titled: Gargantuan Green Grape) and she likes it, which is good enough for me! I just painted my nails said color on Monday, and I was very on the fence about it at first, but I've gotten several complements since! It's definitely a keeper! (please note: I am actually not that tan. this is a low quality picture taken on my phone)

2/7-2/13

Goals for this week:
1. Eat breakfast everyday, or at least M-Th.
2. Try not to fall asleep during Anime/World Cultures, even if Asian boy with massive amounts of curly hair (asian's don't have curly hair, but this kid does...) continues to sit in the front row, therefore blocking a quarter to a third of the subtitles (since we watch anime in Japanese).
3. Try to participate in every class at least once.
3b. ok, that was unrealistic. Try to participate in history of comm recitation.
4. Experiment with new fisheye camera!

Also, this past weekend there was this hugely epic snowstorm on the east coast. Said storm did not hit Manhattan. me is not pleased.

nail polish.

I love painting my nails. I don't know why, but I do, and I frequently rotate my nail polish colors—about once a week, two weeks if I like the color. My favorite brand is OPI. The design of the bottle is very easy to control, even when using my left hand, and their creative team is genius! It really is the catchy names that sell me. I just read about the latest collection: Hong Kong. I was rather pleased with the South Beach collection (Done out in Deco anyone?), but I simply must have the Hong Kong collection. Has anyone else seen Jade is the New Black? GENIUS.

hair.

I finally got my haircut yesterday. I must say, I'm quite pleased with the way the guy did it. It's a tad hard to explain, but he gave me layers from all angles instead of the bottom layer of hair being the longest, etc. But I like it. Though, I am unsure of my bangs, I think they need to grow out for a week or two until they're the desirable length. Time to write my advance college essay now.
